Iterative Bikepacking Design

Series of frame and handlebar bags designed to fit a Liv AR 1 size small bicycle (women’s all road). Designed to be easily accessible while remaining streamlined. Tested to be easier to attach, quicker to remove, and less damaging on the frame.

4 frame bags were designed over this iterative cycle. The main priority was the attachment mechanism along the top of the bicycle. First a loop and cord system (top left) and Velcro straps (top right) were tested. Velcro straps were kept for the bottom tube and the hook and loop system that can be seen on the bottom two bags was designed. These 3D printed hooks were tested to optimize the print quality and the strength under load and vibration. The final design was over 90 seconds faster to attach to a bicycle than the first design and did not damage the frame during install, use, or removal. A top down view of this new attachment mechanism can be seen below.
